Jet Ski Swift Water Rescue

Jet Ski Swift Water Rescue - Covers, basic operation, right capsized craft. Remount in deep water. Self rescue, single victim pickup, rescue sled techniques, throw bag techniques. This class will provide you with the techniques of rescue from flat water, moving water, and deep water. The classes will start Friday at 7:00 am in the Marine Building in Orofino. From there you will go to Dworshak Dam and on Saturday and Sunday you will be in the Clearwater River. Sunday may last all day.

Equipment required – P.F.D., wetsuit or dry suit, wet shoes, gloves, helmet.

High Angle Rope Rescue (Basic)

Instructor: Dave Reynolds and Co.

 

This coursde covers basic rope rescue techniques with an emphasis on hands-on training to include: Proper use of knots, slings and harnesses hardware, and anchor points, safety lines, lowering and raising systems, stretchers and pick-off systems.

Note: Students must bring NFPA approved hard hat/helmet with chin strap, eye protections, leather gloves boots w/ankle support, and work clothing for outdoor conditions (long pants required). This is a rigorous "hands-on" training program and should be attempted only by students in good physical contion.

Maximum Class Size: 18 students

   

National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS):
Report Writing

This course is designed to provide an introduction to and experience with the NFIRS 5.0 all-incident reporting system. Students will be acquainted with the history of NFIRS, and purposes and benefits of fire reporting at the local, state and national level. Included is a basic introduction to all modules and their use. Students will review what to look for at the fire scene to complete a fire report and why it is important. Students will demonstrate how to find codes in the NFIRS Complete Reference Manual and learn the relationship of one data element to another. Scenarios such as a company officer would encounter will be presented and reports completed with common problems discussed.

This program is an excellent tool for implementation of strategies and tactics for aspiring or veteran firefighters and officers.

   

Origin and Cause Fire Investigation
(Idaho POST Certified)

Origin and Cause Fire Investigation is a 16 hour training course. It is designed to provide a clear definition of the role and responsibilities of the initial fire investigation. It will provide essential knowledge to enable them to recognize the potential of intentionally and unintentionally set fires, preserve evidence, and properly report the information to appropriate officials. The training course includes the following basic topics: fire behavior, critical observations of the first responder, fire causes, scene security and evidence preservation, legal considerations, and reporting of findings. The Origin and Cause Investigation training course is designed for anyone interested in basic fire investigation. It is not designed for the arson-experienced firefighter or inspector. The course is based upon NFPA 1033 and NFPA 921.

Maximum class: 25 students

Note: This class is Idaho Police Officer Standards & Training (POST) Certified.

   

Advanced Auto Extrication

Instructor Biography:

Bill Burch is an Amkus Certified Extrication Instructor that has had the opportunity to teach extrication techniques and safe practices to hundreds of Fire Departments, military installations, and industrial accounts located throughout the nine western states. Bill and his wife Peggy started Diamondback Fire & Rescue over ten years ago in Temecula, CA and have since established offices located in Salt Lake City, UT and East Wenatchee, WA. His approach to extrication is to keep the process as simple as possible while safely increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of the First Responder.

 

 

Auto Extrication Course Description:

This sixteen (16) hour course will concentrate on automobile extrication techniques and safe practices for the First Responder. Scene assessment, air bag deactivation, and advanced stabilization will be the main areas of focus during both the lecture portion and hands-on training. The techniques taught have evolved in response to the dangers associated with the air bags systems and their potential deployment during the extrication phase of the rescue. The implied dangers and misinformation associated with the new hybrid vehicles will also be touched upon and discussed. Three-quarters of the class will focus on actual ‘hands-on’ participation by the students.

During the lecture portion of the course, Ron Moore’s ‘Air Bag Update’ and ‘Top 10 Challenges’ will be presented to the students and used as the basis for discussion.

His approach to extriction is to keep the process as simple as possible while safely increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of the First Responder.

 

   

Practical Applications of the International Fire Code

This is a NEW offering from the Idaho State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Are you an experienced Fire Marshal/Fire Inspector or have you recently completed your Idaho Fire Inspector Certification….well, this class is for you!!

This program is the next step to take to become more proficient in understanding how to apply the information within the Code book. You will work with Deputies of the State Fire Marshal’s Office to examine actual case studies and scenarios to determine the best course of action to take with a code enforcement or plan review challenge. Learn the concept of interpreting the intent of the code vs. applying the letter of the code.

*Note: Students must bring a copy of the 2006 International Fire Code Book and a calculator.

* Students must be current holders of the Idaho State Fire Inspector certification.

 

   

Flash-Over Trailer W/Fire Behavior &
SCBA Eessentials Classes

 

 

Flash-Over Survival Training: Provides the knowledge, skills and techniques needed to survive the phenomenon of flashover by using classroom and hands-on live fire training.

Fire Behavior: Students will learn to predict probable fire behaviors and understand the actions necessary to change or prevent these fire behaviors

Students will rotate between the Essentials Modules.

Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA): Provides the firefighter with training in the components, functions, safety features and limitations of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus. Proper methods of using and caring for equipment is included.

* Students Need to mail Proof of Worker’s Compensation Insurance at the time of registration. A current department/city/county workman’s compensation Insurance Certificate is required to be eligible to attend this class.

Note: Students must bring NFPA compliant full protective clothing and SCBA. Full Protective Clothing; to include Turnout Coat, Pants, Hood Helmet, Boots, Gloves, Eye Protection and SCBA.

 * NO BEARDS - Students with facial hair in the seal area of the SCBA facemask will be denied entry into any live-fire training…. No Exceptions!

 

   

MAP, COMPASS AND GPS for the Wildland Firefighter,
EMT and Search and Rescue

This class is a good class for students that have very little experience to those that have a lot of experience with maps, compass and Global Positioning Systems. Students should bring a decent compass and any hand held GPS units they may have. . Instructor will have several units that can be borrowed. Students are welcome to contact instructor for advice on compass or GPS units. There will be a $10 lab fee per student for a local Topographic map, pencils and a “Topo-aid” scale that will be provided to each student.

The instructor has extensive knowledge of the material being taught as he uses them in his profession as a Land Surveyor and has done so since 1975. The instructor has taught this class several times over the past ten years. The instructor uses the material often as an EMT and as a Search and Rescue member.

This class will provide students with knowledge for a much better understanding of Maps from road maps to USGS topographic maps. Students should become experts on the use of topographic maps. With further understanding of symbols on the map, topographic features such as elevation differences, recognizing trails, landing sites, streams, etc.

Students will become very qualified with a compass with knowledge to use a compass to travel to land marks. Landmarks may be crash sites, injured patients, safety zones, fire lines, etc.

Students will become qualified in the use of hand held GPS units to navigate the world!

Students will learn how to put a there location or the location of a landmark on topographic maps the width of a dot made by a pencil!

Class will be held in the classroom as well as the field. Students should bring appropriate clothing such as hiking boots, possibly a rain coat (hopefully not!)
